College Library

Govt. Polytechnic College, Koratty appreciates the significance of the width and depth of the knowledge, which the students must possess for enriching their personality. The College library is envisaged for the collecting, organising and disseminating information for the members or users of the library. We continue to add latest publications in different fields of knowledge to the already existing rich collection of more than 4600 books. Our library subscribes to 5 Newspapers and 21 magazines / journals. Approx. 400 new books were added during this year.

CCF - Common Computer Facility

A computer centre in the college with internet access offers services to various departments to cater to their curricular needs .It has been upgraded and equipped with the latest technology. Students can avail of this internet facility as part of their academic activity during working hours. Currently this facility is managed by Antony Christian Lecturer in Computer Engineering.

Ladies Hostel

The construction work of Ladies hostel with 1700 m2 building is completed Present status: Building construction, Electrical and Plumbing Works Completed.

Department Development Committee

In each department there is a department development committee comprising of Head of Section, Class tutors, Teaching, Non teaching faculties and five students representatives. Department Development Committee holds meetings at regular intervals during the semester to discuss various academic and co curricular activities of the department.

Group Advisory System

A group advisory system has been implemented very effectively to help the students. Each student is attached to a faculty member (Class Tutor) who will be responsible for the welfare of those students under him/her. Class Tutor keeps the records of all academic and extra-curricular activities of the students under his/her guidance. All applications for leave, scholarship, certificates, etc. are to be forwarded to the Principal through the Class Tutor and HOS s.

Womens Grievance Cell

Nearly 30% of the students in this college are girls. The college has a Womens Grievance Cell comprising of faculty members to look into the grievances of the students

Anti-Ragging Committee

The committee and the squad will take effective steps as specified by the Honorable Supreme Court of India, to prevent ragging.

College Student Union

The elected College Union is the highest body that addresses the concerns, needs and welfare of the student community. The union has at all times strived to meet the academic, extra-curricular and cultural needs of the students. The college Union has the following objectives. On the eve of Onam vacation the students union celebrated Onam with a grant Onasadhya. Competition like ˜Tug of war, ˜Uriyadi, Pookalam and procession with Maveli were also conducted. After the Election of the Student Union for the year 2012-2013, the activities of Student Union and Arts Club was inaugurated by Sri Sebastian Paul, Ex-MP

Parent Teacher Association

The backbone of any educational institution is its association of parents and teachers. The PTA of Govt. Polytechnic College, Koratty has been active and creative in providing support for the various activities of the students and the college in general.

Welfare Committee

The Committee will attend to the amenities and other requirements of the students and guide them regarding curricular, co - curricular and extracurricular activities. The Committee monitors students progress and behavior collect and share information relating to student welfare matters, co-ordinate and communicate with teachers, parents and students on matters concerning the welfare of students. Sri. N. Ramachandran HOS Polymer Technology Department is in charge of the committee.

Visiting Faculty Program

The Visiting Faculty Program at Govt. Polytechnic College, Koratty during 2012-13 conducted many invited talks for different semesters with the faculty from reputed academic institutions and industry. The programs were received well by the students in general. Moreover, the faculty members had fruitful interactions with the invited speakers.

Continuing Education Cell

In accordance with the government order to provide suitable technical training to people belong to backward classes and to those who are unemployed, we have in our college implemented and have been running a sub centre of continuing Education Cell since the year of its and inception in 2001.

Placement Cell

Placement Cell is established in the college to impart placement oriented training, to provide assistance for finding suitable employments through campus interview and other methods, to provide useful guidance to members aspiring for higher studies.

Industry Institute Interaction Cell (IIIC)

In order to improve the exposure of students to various Industries related to their discipline, an Industry Institute Interaction Cell, actively functioning in the college under the guidance of Sri. K.G.Nandakumar HOS in Textile Technology Department.

Entrepreneurship Development Club

An Entrepreneurship Development club is functioning in this Institute to inculcate the culture of entrepreneurship among the students and to equip them with the skills, techniques and confidence to act as torch bearers of Enterprise for the new generation. Sri.M.R.Thomas Lecturer in Mechanical Engg. Department is in charge of the club.

Finishing School

To equip students of Govt. Polytechnic College, Koratty to enter the competitive world of employment, a finishing school is functioning in this college. The activities include conducting classes for Communication Skill, Personality Development etc. Sri K.G.Raghu, Lecturer in Textile Technology Department is the in charge of the unit.

National Service Scheme (NSS)

The aim of NSS is to create social awareness to the student population in higher Education. It teaches them the dignity of labour, develops personality and enhances cultural and artistic talents. The GPTC Koratty unit very active during this year. This academic year 38 volunteers have enrolled in the unit. All these members have been active in their participation. Several activities has been conducted by NSS College unit include Tree plantation programe, Blood donation camp, Sahayanidhi programe, Kanji programe and Arogya survey Those programs are very useful to both public and students.

National Cadet Corps (NCC)

National Cadet Corps (NCC) NCC was created with the objective to make up the shortage of army. It works with the aims to develop character comradeship, discipline, leadership, secular outlook, spirit and adventure and the ideals of selfless service amongst the youth of the country. To create a human resource organized, trained and motivated youth to provide leadership in all walks of life and always available for the service of the nation. To provide a suitable environment to motivate the youth to take up a carrier in the armed forces. GPTC Unit 24[k] Bn NCC THRISSUR 6th Company has been created several activities during the year 2012-2013.

BhoomithraSena

Bhoomithra Sena is a governmental project specially designed for college students with the laudable aim of strengthening their commitment towards environmental protection. The project encourages students to take up environmental protection activities at the grass root level especially in the vicinity of the participating colleges. Sri. N. Ramachandran HOS Polymer Technology. Department is the in-charge of the unit.

Forestry Club

Forestry club of the institution has put its imprint in the minds of student community. Making the involvement of students for the noble causes, nature conservation and environmental protection is the main aim of Forestry club of the institution. The club of this college is organizing tours to various places of interest and is conducting pencil drawing, tree planting, essay competition, film shows etc. on relevant subjects. Presently there are nearly 75 active members and a staff in charge in this college.
